MG Motor India has unveiled the ‘Cyberster’ for the first time in the country along with plans to introduce a new network of upscale showrooms for their premium offerings. Although the specific models to be sold in these outlets haven’t been confirmed, the Cyberster seems a likely candidate. This electric sports car marks MG’s debut in this segment and is scheduled for international release later this year.
Initially showcased in 2023, the Cyberster comes with two motor and battery configurations. The base model features a single 308hp motor mounted on the rear axle, paired with a 64kWh battery boasting a claimed range of 520km. On the other hand, the top-tier version houses a 77kWh battery, delivering a CLTC-rated range of 580km, with dual motors generating a combined 544hp and 725Nm. This enables the 1,985kg dual-motor AWD variant to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in just 3.2 seconds.
Cyberster is slightly larger than the current Boxster, measuring 4,533mm in length, 1,912mm in width, and 1,328mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,689mm. MG Motor aims to disclose international pricing for the Cyberster by mid-2024, claiming it to be an “affordable” sports car with an anticipated starting price of around Rs 53-55 lakh, which is considered reasonable even by Indian standards.
Additionally, MG Motor showcased the 4 EV hatchback and the 5 EV estate at the event, both of which were also featured at last year’s Auto Expo. The smaller 4 offers 51kWh and 64kWh battery options, with WLTP ranges of 350km and 452km, respectively while the larger 5 is equipped with a 61.1kWh battery providing a claimed range of 402km.
In Indian market, Cyberster will face competition primarily from the BYD Seal, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6.
